Legislative update July 2024

Categories: Faculty/Staff

The N.C. General Assembly adjourned its “short session” Friday, June 28, without passing adjustments to the biennium budget covering FY24 and FY25, which was passed last year.

The 3% raise effective on July 1, the second of those passed for the biennial budget, will be reflected in paychecks on July 31. Since the increase was approved last year, it did not require any additional action this session. The University’s other budget priorities, including expansion of the School of Data Science and College of Computing and Informatics, were not funded.

The General Assembly is scheduled to return to Raleigh for brief sessions on July 10 and 29, Sept. 9, Oct. 9, Nov. 19-22 and Dec. 11-13. While the adjournment resolution notes that the November session could include taking action on the budget, the General Assembly could take up the budget in other sessions.

More information will be shared with campus as it becomes available.
