"Connected" large-scale artwork

Associate Professor Thomas Schmidt’s large-scale artwork “Connected” has been installed in Duke Energy Plaza, the company’s headquarters in uptown Charlotte. Schmidt employed student and alumni assistants in the creation of the 75-foot wall installation, composed of 175 porcelain panels and 50 mirrors. “Connected” is based on a map of Charlotte’s electrical grid.

Crown Waste Services truck

If you are on campus this summer, you might notice new dumpsters and trucks. On Monday, July 1, the University’s waste-hauling contracts that split services between two companies took effect. Crown Waste and Recycling Systems LLC, a female-owned, Charlotte-based company servicing Mecklenburg and surrounding counties, is emptying campus trash dumpsters. Republic Services is continuing to service dumpsters for cardboard, recycling and large projects and events.

Student Announcements

  • Mary Alexander Road will be closed from the East Deck roundabout to the Levine Hall roundabout from today, Monday, July 15, through 5 p.m., Friday, July 26, for repairs near the Robinson Hall bus stop. Lot 28 will remain open with access from East Deck. The crosswalks will be closed; pedestrians should use the ADA lot by Johnson Band Center.
  • The Bank of America ATM at the Prospector Building will be out of service July 29-30 for replacement.
  • The Office of Parking and Transportation Services was named an accredited parking organization with distinction for demonstrating best practices in responsible parking management and operations, customer service, professional development, sustainability and access management, safety, data security and risk management

Upcomming Events

  • Question, Persuade, Refer is a 90-minute training that teaches individuals how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, including verbal, behavioral and situational clues. The next student training is virtual from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 23.
