OneIT’s Michael Cowan has died

Michael Cowan, a systems programmer/analyst with OneIT, died Tuesday, Aug 6.

Cowan, who joined the University in January 2019, helped with the design, implementation and management of the server and storage infrastructure for the College of Computing and Informatics, which included maintenance and patching of Linux and Windows servers and scripts. He also worked closely with individual faculty and their research team members and provided solutions to facilitate their research projects and helped resolve technical problems. Additionally, he worked closely with OneIT colleagues to evaluate and improve the services offered by the college support teams.

Joe Matesich, executive director of the Technology Solutions Office, noted, “Michael was a caring, conscientious and technically skilled person who was a joy to work with and a terrific colleague. His many positive contributions to UNC Charlotte and the OneIT college support group are significant and will be long-lasting.”

There will be a visitation from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at Wilson Funeral and Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Rd., with a celebration of life from 12:30 to 1 p.m.
