Bernadette Donovan-Merkert has been named founding dean of the College of Science after serving as interim for more than a year. Her appointment, approved by the UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees, is effective Aug. 15.

- Reminder: The virtual public presentation for the candidate for the associate vice chancellor for facilities management position is at 11:45 a.m., today, Monday, Aug. 12.
- Attend University Convocation, Thursday, Aug. 15, in the Popp Martin Student Union, Room 340. Light refreshments will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the program at 10 a.m., which will be livestreamed.
- 49er Mart users can attend a virtual forum from 2 to 4 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 22. Registration is encouraged on the learning and development portal, and more information is on the 49er Mart message board.
- Malcolm Butler, dean of the Cato College of Education, has been appointed by the UNC Board of Governors to serve on the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Commission.
- Carolinas CanvasConnect will be on campus, Wednesday, Sept. 11, for a one-day immersive event showcasing the latest innovations in higher education. Register now!

With a background in environmental science and experience in stormwater infrastructure, she is focused on engaging faculty and staff in sustainability efforts across campus, including the Sustainability Ambassador program.
