What’s New this semester

Active Assailant Response Training: All faculty, staff and students are required to complete online active assailant response training, specific to our campus. The training should take less than 10 minutes to complete; check your email for the training link and a message from Chancellor Gaber.

Niner Insider: We are making some changes this year to Niner Insider based on your feedback and to better serve you. Starting today, Monday, Aug. 19, you will receive Niner Insider twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. We look forward to sharing the good news of Niner Nation with you in the coming year!

Disruptions, Delays and Detours: Quickly find out about upcoming and ongoing campus disruptions, delays and detours — this is linked in every edition of Niner Insider for your convenience.

Concur: This is the University’s new travel and expense management system, designed to streamline and automate travel and expense management processes, providing a more efficient and user-friendly experience for all.

Brand Update: In an effort to maintain consistency and modernity across all University communications, Interstate font can be substituted in certain applications.

OneIT System Update: Zoom AI Companion has been added to enhance productivity for faculty, staff and students. Microsoft Copilot with Data Protection is recommended for use and is accessible with Charlotte credentials.

Teaching and Learning Reminders: Learning Space Technology installed new technology in the CHHS Building during the summer. Faculty should log into classroom podiums to familiarize themselves with updated software; contact classroom support with any questions.

CATS-Pass App: Faculty and staff may purchase discounted annual passes for $75 to ride LYNX light rail and CATS buses fare-free. The 49er ID Card/Mobile ID is no longer a valid credential for riding CATS buses or light rail. Riders must download the CATS-Pass app.

Academic Affairs Weekly News Digest: The Monday issues of Niner Insider will include a link to the Academic Affairs Weekly News Digest. In this week’s issue, learn about new and revised academic policies around teaching effectiveness, student feedback for instructors and post-tenure review.

Parking Permits: Learn more about the various options, and purchase your annual parking permit.

Telework/Remote Work Agreements: The 2023-24 Telework/Remote Agreement cycle ends Aug. 31. All existing agreements must be reviewed and renewed for the 2024-25 academic year.

5-Block Feast: The 5-Block Feast allows faculty and staff to deposit $40 on eAccounts for five meals at SoVi Dining Hall, which offers all-you-care-to-eat dining.

Address Update: To ensure that you receive any mail addressed to you, update your office address, local mailing address and permanent address in your Employee Self Service portal.

New Faculty: Visit the get started faculty page for OneIT Orientation, free software and more. For file and data storage options, refer to this guide, and set up your Zoom account in Canvas by following these FAQ instructions.

Teaching Innovation Workshops: Participate in the Center for Teaching and Learning’s start-of-the semester workshops on high-impact and innovative teaching strategies to support student success.

NinerReady: It takes all of us to keep this campus safe. Make sure you are prepared by becoming NinerReady.

49er Mobile ID: Your 49er Mobile ID is your virtual campus ID that resides on your mobile device. Set up your 49er Mobile ID by downloading the Transact eAccounts app and following these installation instructions.

Employee Assistance Program: The Employee Assistance Program offers access to free, confidential counseling and resources on financial, legal and work-life matters.

Headspace Care: The Headspace Care app offers confidential, on-demand emotional and mental health support for your life challenges through coaching via text-based chats, self-care activities and video-based therapy and psychiatry.

OneIT System Updates: All students, faculty and staff should now use their ninernet@charlotte.edu email address for Microsoft 365 logins. Due to updates to the Eduroam network, users must reauthenticate using their Charlotte credentials and either trust the new certificate or forget the network and log in again.

49er Athletics Tickets: Faculty and staff are eligible for discounted tickets to campus athletics events. Prices are valid for current faculty and staff and cover spouses and dependents.

Campus Mail: Mail & Package Services supports mail on campus through interdepartmental mail and campus mail. When receiving off-campus mail, use the university address, and include the recipient name, building and office number.

Department Catering: Chartwells Catering at UNC Charlotte provides all campus catering services, from breakfast to bar service or hors d’oeuvres to hot buffets! Groups wishing to use outside caterers for campus events or accept donated food must submit a request through the Food Service Waiver Form.

Faculty/Staff Bookstore Discount: Enjoy a 20% discount with your 49er ID at Barnes & Noble Charlotte in the Popp Martin Student Union on branded merchandise and 49er gear! Some exclusions may apply.
