new initiatives and reminders
NinerReady: Being prepared is good practice for any emergency you may face, whether at school, work or a large event. Becoming NinerReady will help you no matter where you are.
Active Assailant Response Training: Remember, all faculty, staff and students are required to complete online active assailant response training specific to our campus. Check your email for the training link and a message from Chancellor Gaber. Thank you to those who have already completed the training.
NinerNotice vs. NinerAlert: As a new semester has begun, it’s important to take a moment and learn how the University will contact you during an emergency situation or a disruption to campus operations. Learn more about NinerNotices and NinerAlerts, and how you should respond to either notification.
Personal Identification Policy: The recently passed House Bill 237 amends and reinforces state laws on wearing masks, or other devices that conceal identity, in public. In response, the University has created the Personal Identification Policy. The policy states that no individual on University property may wear a mask or other device that disguises their person, face or voice in order to conceal their identity unless permitted under law. Even with the exceptions, individuals must lower or remove their mask/device for identification purposes if requested by police or University representatives. In addition, all UNC Charlotte employees and students are required to carry their Charlotte 49er ID Card (either physical or mobile) or other form of government-issued identification (e.g., driver’s license) with them at all times while on University property and may be asked to present that identification by authorized University officials.
Lockdown Kits: Do you know how to use your classroom’s lockdown kit? Classrooms that do not lock or are not on swipe access are equipped with lockdown kits. The kits and instructions for use are most commonly located near the teaching podium or the classroom safety sign. Please note: The kits are in place while the University transitions to automatic locks on classroom doors.
New Roles, K-9 Protection
Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Safety and Security: Christopher Gonyar ’05, ’07 MPA, is the interim associate vice chancellor for safety and security. He is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the plans and programs that protect lives and property, prevent accidents and incidents and preserve the learning environment and business operations of the University.
Demonstration Activity Resource Team: NiCole Lynch is the interim head of the Demonstration Activity Resource Team. In this role, Lynch leads efforts to ensure events are conducted safely and in compliance with University policies. Learn more about DART and free speech.
Vested Interest in K9s Inc.: UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety’s K-9 Dany will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from nonprofit organization Vested Interest in K9s Inc.
Maintaining Your Health and Well-Being
Niner Nation Cares: This website serves as an information resource for students, faculty, staff and visitors to understand ways to stay safe on and off campus, along with health protocols in place on campus. This website is updated as new information is available and should be checked regularly.
