Celebrating transfer students: Charlotte observes National Transfer Student Week

Categories: Students

Charlotte joins universities nationwide in celebrating National Transfer Student Week, Oct. 21-25. This weeklong observance recognizes and honors the achievements of transfer students, who represent a vital part of the campus community.

As the UNC System’s leader in transfer enrollment, Charlotte welcomed more than 3,500 transfer students for the 2024-25 academic year. These students bring their own unique stories, enriched by a variety of experiences and perspectives. In recognition of this, the University Transfer Center invited students to share their transfer journeys, and the responses revealed a powerful commonality — a deep sense of community and Niner pride.

“At Charlotte, I feel heard, valued and safe,” said Angela Cortes Arana, an international business major who transferred from Central Piedmont Community College. “I love the sense of community here, and I’m proud to be a 49er!”

Ellie Leutenegger, an electrical engineering major who transferred from NC State University, shares a similar feeling.

“Transferring opened doors to new opportunities like guest speaking and tutoring,” Leutenegger said. “My professors genuinely care about my well-being, and the best part is feeling like I belong to a whole community.”

Macy Klein, a computer science major who transferred from an out-of-state university, spoke about the infectious nature of Niner Nation.

“One of my most memorable moments was attending my first home football game. Being surrounded by excited students captured the essence of being a Niner — community, pride and connection.”

Building on shared experiences

The stories of Cortes Arana, Leutenegger and Klein illustrate the shared experiences that unite transfer students at Charlotte. This welcoming environment is supported by the University Transfer Center, which plays a key role in ensuring transfer student success.

The center offers comprehensive resources, guidance and advocacy to help students transition smoothly, reach their academic goals and thrive in the University community. Throughout National Transfer Student Week, the center will collaborate with other campus departments to host events and activities designed to welcome and support transfer students.
