Matthew Metzgar commented for ‘What would proposed tariffs from Donald Trump mean for Charlotte’s economy?’

Matthew Metzgar, a clinical professor of economics at UNC Charlotte, said those tariffs could serve U.S. interests but also hurt the American consumer. 

“A tariff is essentially a tax on an imported good and so if you buy a good from Germany and it’s shipped here, if there’s a tariff on it, that price has to be paid, so basically a tax on top of it,” Metzgar explained.
