Editor’s Note: With this last Niner Insider of 2024, we wish you a happy holiday season. May the remainder of this year and the start of the next be filled with rest and happiness. Norm Makes an Unlikely Friend: 2024 UNC Charlotte Holiday Video

What you need to know: Faculty and Staff
- Campus Updates: Commencement ceremonies begin tomorrow morning. Be mindful of additional traffic on campus and these parking and transportation updates.
- Reminder: The annual tests of the NinerAlert and campus lockdown systems will occur Tuesday, Dec. 17, at approximately 9:30 a.m. and will last for about 10 minutes. You will receive NinerAlerts no matter your proximity to campus. Campus sirens also will be activated. All messages will be marked clearly as test messages.
- Holiday Schedule: Don’t forget this year’s holiday leave schedule. The University will be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 24, through Wednesday, Jan. 1.
- Insurance Notice: Health insurance deductions begin with your Friday, Dec. 13, paycheck. If you enrolled in the State Health Plan for the 2025 plan year, verify the benefit plan and deduction on your paycheck with your open enrollment confirmation statement. Report any discrepancies to the Benefits Office at benefits@charlotte.edu or 704-687-8134.
- Upcoming Atkins Closure: Atkins Library will be closed Jan. 6-8 for exhaust fan installations and relocation. Item retrieval and interlibrary loan may be delayed during this closure. The virtual reference service will be available via chat and email.
- Call for Submissions: UNC Charlotte’s re-imagined undergraduate research journal, ETHEL, is seeking research submissions and student reviewers. Charlotte students involved in research or creative activities are encouraged to review the submission guidelines and student reviewer qualifications.
- 10 Under Ten Awards: The UNC Charlotte GOLD Alumni Network has announced the recipients of the 2024 10 Under Ten Awards. The honorees will be recognized for advancing their fields and communities at the seventh annual awards ceremony in February.

- 3MT Winner: Lauren Hultquist, a graduate student in psychology, received the top award in the 2024 Three Minute Thesis competition for her presentation, “Keyboard Warriors,” which examines the nature of online anonymity, including its effect on dark personality traits.
