Meet Revonda Carter

Categories: Faculty/Staff

Revonda Carter is one of the new members of UNC Charlotte’s motor fleet team. Carter, a veteran public school transportation administrator in North Carolina, is on the front line of the University’s new motor pool system for vehicle reservations, which allows campus employees to see the availability of vehicles similar to a car rental company.

Learn about Carter’s background and tips for the new system.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I have worked in the North Carolina school system in transportation for nearly nine years. Before coming to UNC Charlotte, I was in Alexander County in the bus garage as an administrator, working with the mechanics and handling invoices — very similar to what I do now at UNC Charlotte. I had been trying to get into UNC Charlotte, so when this job came available I thought, “This is it!” It felt so much like home when I joined UNC Charlotte.

I received my business degree from Gardner-Webb University, and I am working on a master’s degree in public administration at UNC Pembroke.

What is your day-to-day like?

I started in November, so it’s been a lot of learning and training. Even though I have taken care of invoices at the state level, the University is different. It’s been a blessing to have a great accounting team that has taught me Banner and all the different systems. It was also great to come in during the time where the University was changing its motor pool system for reservations. I do the motor pool side and help with some of the mechanical side as well.

How has your experience at UNC Charlotte been so far?

I absolutely love it here! The people are positive, and the leadership is supportive. Everyone I’ve met brings such high energy, and it just reaffirms my decision every day.

Tell me about the new motor fleet system and how it makes reservations easier.

One thing that is going to make reservations easy is that people can see the availability of what we have. They can choose 15-passenger vans or minivans in our fleet, where previously, we would assign people a vehicle. One campus employee reserved a car with the new system and said, “Oh, this is just like Enterprise.” I said, “Yes, and I’m here to give you the best customer service experience you can have.”

Is there any advice you have for campus employees about this new system?

Fifteen-passenger vans are a hot commodity. Please make sure to reserve them early.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I like to relax and recharge. I enjoy reading books about personal development and industrial trends to stay informed but also to relax.
