The 2025 Spring Semester is Underway
A new semester has officially arrived at UNC Charlotte with the start of classes. Here’s everything you need to know for spring 2025:
- What’s New This Semester: Food Truck Village outside of Prospector, Mail and Package Services is on the move, exclusive parking passes for The Dubois Center and a new sports team takes the field.

What You Need to Know: Faculty and Staff
- Academic Affairs Weekly Digest: Learn about the Center for Teaching and Learning’s spring workshops on generative AI, Canvas foundations, teaching effectiveness with Canvas tools and active learning, along with other important academic affairs updates in this week’s news digest.
- Last Chance to Apply: The Office of Undergraduate Research is accepting submissions for faculty project descriptions for the 2025 OUR Summer Research Program through Wednesday, Jan. 15.

- New Academic Leaders Named: UNC Charlotte has named William “Bill” Tolone dean of the Graduate School, Michael Putman associate provost for academic programs and space.
- The Future of Note-Taking: Faculty, staff and students have access to NotebookLM — Google’s AI-driven note-taking and study guide tool.
- Celebrate MLK This Month: All are invited to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy with two January events. Attend the Kingian Life, Legacy and Leadership Panel Thursday, Jan. 16, and show your Niner pride by marching in the 2025 Martin Luther King Jr. parade Saturday, Jan. 18.
- Atkins Library Events: New and returning students can participate in Bad Art Day, crafty goal setting and therapy dogs at Atkins Library this week.

Looking to join a new club this semester? Don’t miss out on the winter student organization showcase taking place from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.
Gold Rush 5K Saturday, Feb. 1

The Gold Rush 5K, hosted by University Recreation, is set for Saturday, Feb. 1, and is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members.
