National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sports and STEM

Parents and their children who are in third through sixth grades are invited to the free, interactive National Girls and Women in Sports Day event from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Honeywell Building in Uptown. The event features student-athletes from various Charlotte institutions and facilitators from the STEM field. Lunch and giveaways included; register by Saturday, Feb. 1.

  • Gold Rush 5K: The 2025 Gold Rush 5K starts at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 1. Review information on packet pickup and where to go on race day. 
  • 49ers4LIFE Blood Drive: The 16th annual 49ers4LIFE Blood Drive is set for Monday, March 17, in Popp Martin Student Union, Room 340. You can register to be a blood donor on the Red Cross website. Search for sponsor code “49ers4life” to find the drive and schedule your appointment. All donors will receive a free long-sleeved T-shirt!

  • New Program Launch: Human resources’s new LEADing What’s Next Certificate is a cohort-based leadership development curriculum designed for Charlotte supervisors and managers of full-time employees. Participate in a virtual information session from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, or visit the website to apply.
  • Green Dot Training: Attend a Green Dot Training from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., today, Thursday, Jan. 30, to learn to recognize, react and prevent interpersonal violence at UNC Charlotte.
  • 2025 Green Tie Gala: Celebrate your Love of Charlotte at the re-imagined 2025 Green Tie Gala from 7 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Dubois Center. Registration ends Monday, Feb. 10.
  • 10 Under Ten Awards: Graduates of the Last Decade Alumni Network is hosting the seventh annual 10 Under Ten Awards at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, in the Popp Martin Student Union, Room 340, to honor alumni who have made significant contributions in their professional careers and communities. Register by Thursday, Feb. 13.
  • Sanford Hall Demo: The contractor will be mobilizing the project site this week to begin the Sanford Hall demolition; a fence will be erected around the perimeter of the site to contain the work area. The project’s first phase, which includes material abatement primarily in and around the structure, will take place from February through May. Demolition will follow and will be completed  in August.
