Charlotte Creates New AI Institute
UNC Charlotte is a leader in defining the future of artificial intelligence – and has launched the Charlotte AI Institute to formalize the University’s position as a hub for cutting-edge discovery, interdisciplinary collaboration and workforce development.
wHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: FACULTY AND STAFF
- Training Reminder: The annual EHS compliance training was assigned to all University faculty, staff and student workers Friday, Jan. 3. Employees have 45 days to complete the required training, which can be accessed through the Learning and Development Portal.
- Community Service Leave: The state is providing an additional 16 hours of paid community service leave in addition to the 24 hours already allocated to qualifying employees to volunteer for organized Hurricane Helene-related efforts coordinated by a local government entity or an established nonprofit organization.
- TEDxUNCCharlotte: Free general admission and VIP tickets are available for TEDxUNCCharlotte, scheduled for 1 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, in Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. Don’t miss out on a chance to hear from a variety of speakers on the rich ideas the Charlotte community has to offer.
- Dining Services Wins Big: UNC Charlotte dining services was honored as the National Account of the Year by Chartwells Higher Ed, standing out among over 300,000 associates from North America. As one of only 109 winners this year, the team was recognized at a national ceremony, Compass Night of Stars.

It’s Super Bowl Week for Niner Alumni

UNC Charlotte alumnus Larry Ogunjobi ’16 has been nominated for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award , which is given to a player who demonstrates a commitment to creating a positive impact in their communities. The NFL Honors award ceremony will air nationally at 9 p.m., tonight, on FOX and NFL Network.

Niner Nation alumna Kennedy Rodriguez ’24 is Super Bowl bound! A talented photographer, Kennedy was an athletics creative intern and UCOMM social media intern. Now she works with the NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles!
