Strategic plan update from chair

Please note: The review period for this draft has ended. (Page updated: 7:30 a.m., April 9, 2025)

Dear Niner Nation,

As you may recall, in November 2024, Chancellor Gaber established a Strategic Plan Update Working Group to review and update the University’s strategic plan, “Shaping What’s Next.” The Working Group includes representatives from academic affairs, research, student affairs, communications, and faculty and student leadership.

The update was prompted by the progress that has been made in reaching and exceeding the ten-year goals for four of the plan’s success metrics. The revisions are also intended to bring the strategic plan into compliance with Policy 300.8.5, “Equality Within the University of North Carolina,” which was approved by the UNC Board of Governors in May 2024, and subsequent guidance provided by the UNC System Office.

It should be noted that the update is not a comprehensive refresh, rather it involves a limited scope focused on three primary objectives:

  • Revising metrics to reflect the University’s progress
  • Ensuring compliance with UNC System policies
  • Reviewing goals, objectives and action steps needing revision as appropriate

As originally planned, a comprehensive refresh process will be undertaken at the end of the fifth year in 2026.

In carrying out its charge, the Working Group has strived to make revisions that advance the progress of the strategic plan while meeting the University’s obligation to comply with all applicable laws and policies. Particular attention has been given to necessary revisions to ensure that our prioritized focus on success for all students continues.

A draft of the updated strategic plan is linked here for your review. It will be available for review until Wednesday, April 9. If you wish to provide comments, you may do so by sending an email to strategicplanning@charlotte.edu.

UNC Charlotte remains committed to fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for all members of our community.

Best regards,

Kim Bradley
Chair, Strategic Plan Update Working Group
