Martin Scholars Program Propels Niner Engineer to Success

Hunter Ball, a Martin Scholar and part of the Honors College , is from Bryson City, North Carolina. He is a junior mechanical engineering major with a minor in math. The oldest of eight siblings and a first-generation college student, Ball has embraced every opportunity — interning with Duke Energy, leading the Formula EV powertrain team and now designing a wave energy converter for the Marine Energy Collegiate Competition. He plans to pursue a career focused on advancing renewable energy or improving power grid reliability.

Mebane Scholarship Allows Aspiring Special Educator to Grow

Anna Tedeschi is a Project Enrich and Mebane Scholar from Concord, North Carolina, majoring in special education with minors in child and family development and children’s literature. The senior Honors College student, inspired by her family’s deep ties to UNC Charlotte, is part of the first Mebane Scholars cohort, where she leads community literacy efforts and tutors young readers. She plans to become a school psychologist, equipping students with the tools they need to thrive.

UTOP Scholarship Gives Real Estate Student an Advantage

Shaun Lawrence, a UTOP scholarship recipient from Charlotte , is a finance major with a concentration in real estate. A junior and licensed real estate agent, Lawrence is active in Building Black Brothers, Building Black Students and the Commercial Real Estate Society. Thanks to UTOP, Lawrence found his community, support and the momentum to pursue his bachelor’s and eventually a master’s degree at UNC Charlotte.

For every dollar you contribute to support faculty development, research and resources, she will match your gift up to $2,490 — doubling the impact of your generosity. The challenge goes live at noon, today
  • Provost Challenge: The top three areas that have the largest percentage increase from last year will receive bonus money from Provost Jennifer Troyer! The academic school, college, department or program with the largest improvement will receive $2,490. The area with the second largest improvement will receive $1,490 and the third largest improvement will receive $490.
