A Tale of Three Norms
Three students from different backgrounds — Jamie Williford, Aisha Qatabi and Owen Joyce — came together to create a singular identity for Charlotte’s beloved mascot. These are their stories.

- Summer Commencement Bell Ringer: The Dean of Students Office is accepting applications for Summer Commencement bell ringer. Faculty and staff should encourage graduating students to apply for this prestigious honor.
- Industry-grade Engineering Addition: Oerlikon AM, one of the world’s leaders in metal additive manufacturing, recently donated an industry-grade metal additive manufacturing machine to William States Lee College of Engineering’s Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science.
- EHRA-Non-Faculty Staff: Goals and objective plans, now available in NinerTalent STAKES, are due Monday, June 16. Email the performance management team with any questions.

- Traffic Reminder: UNC Charlotte’s dining service provider, Chartwells Higher Education, will hold its company summit June 2-4, at Halton Arena. About 600 people are expected to attend, which may impact traffic patterns.

- New Canvas Feature: Canvas has introduced discussion checkpoints, a feature that automates grading for discussions requiring peer replies, making it easier for instructors to evaluate student engagement.

Lydia Thompson, professor of art and recipient of a Lighton International Artists Exchange Program award, will travel to Ghana June 22 through July 11 to investigate traditional adobe vernacular architecture structures.

Applications are open for the Summer Commencement bell ringer. All applicants must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA and be in good disciplinary standing. Applications, which require a resume and personal statement, are due by 11:45 p.m., Sunday, June 29.
