Academic Affairs working toward implementing an Online Faculty Activity Reporting System
The Division of Academic Affairs is working toward implementing an online platform to help faculty more easily document their teaching, research, and service. The system will bring in data from a variety of on-campus and off-campus sources, such as data on publications and student evaluations of teaching, and allows that data, along with faculty-provided data, to be stored in a secure environment that is easily accessible by the faculty member. This system will improve information flow between faculty, chairs, and deans, making processes such as annual evaluations easier.
The Belk College of Business and the College of Computing and Informatics are currently using faculty activity reporting systems. Given the success of those systems, Academic Affairs has committed to implementing a similar system across all colleges.
There are currently 30 faculty (including chairs, deans and associate deans) and 22 staff (including research, accreditation, reporting, budget office and OneIT) participating in and providing feedback on potential systems.
Benefits of a Faculty Activity Reporting System
- Allows faculty to securely record their professional activities
- Allows faculty to easily share their activities and accomplishments with their chair for annual reviews
- Prevents faculty from manually entering the same information year after year
- Allows faculty to efficiently prepare their CVs for some standardized formats
- Allows administrators to easily access and utilize information for performance evaluations, annual departmental reports and accreditation reports that require faculty data.
Process and Timeline
- A group of faculty, members of the OneIT team and various other stakeholders on campus worked with the University’s purchasing team to create a request for proposal to help identify vendors for the project.
- Vendors have given campus presentations to the project team and campus committees.
- A vendor will be selected and announced this summer.
- A timeline for building and implementing the online platform will be developed and shared with campus once approved.
