Alumna Jennifer Pagán authored the opinion piece ‘I devoted years to making water cleaner. Now, American innovation like ours is at risk’

Jennifer Pagán ’99, ’00 M.S., ’06 Ph.D. is co-founder and chief technology officer of AquiSense. Earlier this year, she received the 2025 Bayh-Dole Coalition American Innovator Award for her groundbreaking work with UV-C LED water disinfection technology.
In the opinion piece, she wrote how “the Bayh-Dole Act is the lynchpin of America’s tech transfer system. It empowers university researchers, small businesses and nonprofits to patent their innovations and license them to private companies with the capacity to scale and distribute them.”
