UNC Charlotte Retains No. 1 Ranking in North Carolina for Online Bachelor’s Programs

Charlotte, N.C. — UNC Charlotte continues to lead the state in online education, once again earning the distinction of No. 1 in North Carolina (and No. 4 nationally) for online bachelor’s programs in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Online Programs rankings. This marks the fifth consecutive year UNC Charlotte has ranked among the nation’s top 10 for online bachelor’s programs. The recognition underscores the University’s commitment to expanding access, supporting student success and delivering high‑quality academic programs to learners across the region and beyond.

“UNC Charlotte’s continued national recognition reflects a sustained focus on academic quality, student support and providing an accessible education,” said Jennifer Troyer, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “Our online programs are designed to deliver the same rigor, relevance and outcomes students expect from Charlotte, in formats that meet the realities of today’s learners.”

The 2026 rankings bring a significant new national distinction for the University. UNC Charlotte earned a No. 2 national ranking and No. 1 in North Carolina for Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans. The designation signals strong performance on program quality measures and veterans-focused affordability factors, reinforcing Charlotte’s commitment to serving those who have served.

UNC Charlotte’s business programs also earned national recognition. The University ranked No. 32 in Best Online Bachelor’s in Business Programs and No. 1 in North Carolina. Additionally, the online MBA posted the University’s largest year-over-year jump, rising 54 places to No. 136.

Charlotte’s online graduate programs earned strong national recognition, including:

  • No. 22 for master’s in nursing
  • No. 18 for master’s in education and tied for No. 1 in North Carolina
  • No. 12 for master’s in special education and tied for No. 1 in North Carolina
  • No. 56 for master’s in engineering (up seven from last year)

As demand for online learning continues to grow, UNC Charlotte is expanding its portfolio with new online programs planned for 2026:

  • B.A. in Computer Science
  • B.A. in Special Education and General Curriculum (pending SACSCOC approval)
  • B.S. in Economics (pending SACSCOC approval)

With these additions, UNC Charlotte will offer 13 fully online bachelor’s degree programs and 54 fully online graduate programs, providing pathways for learners seeking to advance their careers or complete their degrees on their own schedules.
