New names, expanded support: What students should know about University College changes
University College and two of its offices have new names. Together, they provide academic support, accessibility services and resources for transfers and adult students.
The Office of Undergraduate Education and University College is now known as University College, establishing a single, consistent name for the unit and the academic services and resources it provides.
Two offices within University College also have new names: the Office of Accessibility and Accommodation, formerly the Office of Disability Services, and the University Transfer and Adult Student Center, formerly the University Transfer Center.
The changes, which took effect July 1, are intended to make it easier for students to identify and connect with the support available to them and to reflect expanded services for adult students.
“Our goal is for every student to know where they can turn for support and to feel that the resources we provide reflect their needs and experiences,” said Teresa Petty, associate provost and dean of University College. “These changes make that support more visible, particularly for students with disabilities, transfer students and adult students, while giving us an opportunity to be even more intentional about how we help students connect, navigate the University and achieve their goals.”
The Office of Accessibility and Accommodation will continue working with students with disabilities to provide accommodations and support students’ access to the University’s academic programs, services and campus environment.
The new name more accurately reflects the office’s broader focus on both providing individual accommodations and helping foster an accessible campus environment for all students.
The University Transfer and Adult Student Center’s new name reflects an expanded focus on serving adult students in addition to its longstanding support for students transferring to UNC Charlotte.
Transfer students will continue to find dedicated advising support, transition programming and resources designed to complement their primary academic advising and help them navigate their path to and through the University.
Adult students will find more intentional programming and support designed around their experiences and needs, along with a more visible home on campus where they can connect with resources, programs and one another.
Together, the changes reflect University College’s focus on helping students successfully navigate their academic experience at UNC Charlotte.
