Why did you choose UNC Charlotte?
There were three good reasons that stood out for me while considering UNC Charlotte. First is the good ranking associated with the school, the alumni and its long-standing record of academic excellence. Secondly, I was impressed with the professional master’s degree program in data science offered by the department, as its uniqueness automatically prepares students for the workplace. The third reason has to do with the city of Charlotte itself. Charlotte is cool, calm and has very good weather, which I love.
What made you want to join the Graduate and Student Professional Government? What is your role as treasurer like?
My first purpose in joining the Graduate and Professional Student Government was to find like-minded graduate students in such a collaborative body, and having had prior leadership experiences, I decided to join the GPSG executive team and bring onboard my unique leadership capabilities in serving the student body.
As a treasurer for the GPSG, my role in representing the GSPG on all financial records is exciting as I get to participate in initiating and sustaining good changes on campus for the graduate students. The role is also humbling with regards to the responsibilities, the amount of hard work and intricacies involved in the advocacy of graduate students.
What advice do you have for new students?
My advice for new students will be to get involved and ultimately enjoy the learning process. Learning can truly be fun beyond studying, if we can truly allow ourselves to maximize all available opportunities that present themselves. For instance, GPSG is a great body for graduate students to come together, collaborate, share ideas and generally have fun learning together while achieving a common goal. I advise new students to join student organizations, take up leadership roles, be fully involved and generally have fun while getting their degrees.
What do you like to do when you aren’t studying?
I enjoy family time and oftentimes we all go swimming together. I also love cleaning and arranging spaces. I can do it all day when I’m not studying.
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
I can be crazy about memorizing numbers, phone numbers, debit card numbers, car plates numbers, birthdates, any number at all, when I want to.
Where is your favorite place to eat on campus, and what do you get?
Wendy’s hamburger is my favorite of all time.
