Jonathan Nyandjo named semifinalist for top soccer award
Senior forward Jonathan Nyandjo is one of the 15 men’s semifinalists for the 2023 MAC Hermann Trophy as announced by the United Soccer Coaches.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and has been presented annually since 1967 to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. Voting is conducted by NCAA Division I Men’s soccer coaches.
“It means so much to me, especially because of my journey here at Charlotte, as well as the work I had to put in during these years too,” said Nyandjo.
The 6-2 forward’s game heightened against conference opponents as he led the Niners with eight points (three goals and two assists) in eight league matches. Nyandjo scored the game-winning goal against Memphis in the regular season finale to clinch the No. 2 seed in The American, and he scored a goal in the conference tournament semifinals against Florida Atlantic on the way to earning all-tournament honors and Charlotte hoisting the conference trophy.
The Charlotte, North Carolina, native has had a terrific award season, beginning with first-team all-conference honors, all-tournament honors and a conference title from the American Athletic Conference. On Dec. 5, Nyandjo was named first-team All-East Region, and as a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, Nyandjo is expected to be a lock for All-American honors.
