Meet Christina Al-Khateeb

An events coordinator for the University Events Office, Christina Al-Khateeb plans and supports chancellor events and assists with the implementation for fall and spring Commencement ceremonies. She has been a Niner for almost seven and a half years and started out in the Office of Housing and Residence Life. She was gracious to answer our questions, but she has one for you too: Would like to volunteer for Commencement? Sign up here!

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I get to celebrate students at the pinnacle of their collegiate career as they walk across the commencement stage and commemorate all their hard work and accomplishments with friends and family. The Commencement ceremonies meld two of the facets of my job I most enjoy: event planning and supporting students.

A lesser-known aspect of my position is organizing volunteers to assist with Commencement, making the experience as smooth and stress-free as possible for students and their guests. This is an integral part of Commencement and a time when I get to work with colleagues across campus in creating the best possible experience.

Why should faculty and staff volunteer to help with Commencement?

Volunteering at Commencement is a great way to show support for our amazing students and help create a positive and lasting impression on their guests. What better way to send our students off than with the welcoming faces of faculty and staff who have been there for them over the years. If you would like to volunteer for Commencement, you can sign up here!

What are three words you would use to describe UNC Charlotte?

Engaged, evolving, exciting — UNC Charlotte is an amazing institution with unlimited potential, and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for Niner Nation!

Where is your favorite place on campus?

The mezzanine level in the Popp Martin Student Union; you can not only feel the energy on campus, but also experience the heart of the student body. The mezzanine is a great place to people-watch with your Starbucks drink of choice, and I’ve spent many a day responding to emails from one of its comfy chairs.

What is a fun fact about you that many people may not know?

I can sing a mean “Dancing Queen” and “Mamma Mia” at karaoke!

Do you have a favorite quote?

“Whatever you do, do it well. Do it so well that when people see you do it, they will want to come back and see you do it again…” — Walt Disney
