Help Niner Nation fight food insecurity for #GivingTuesday
#GivingTuesday, observed Nov. 29, is a global movement of people and organizations showing generosity and transforming communities and the world. UNC Charlotte is supporting the Jamil Niner Student Pantry to ensure that 49er students and employees have access to nutritious foods.
“We are currently serving the highest number of shoppers on a weekly basis then we have in past semesters,” said Sofia Mejia, student graduate assistant for the Jamil Niner Pantry.”
This year the pantry is:
- Distributing an average of 7,000 lbs. of food a month
- Seeing a 300% higher grocery bill per week
- Serving more than 350 shoppers per week
- Focusing on healthy pantry standards
Ways to support the Jamil Niner Student Pantry for #GivingTuesday:
- Visit givingtuesday.charlotte.edu to help feed Niners in need.
- Stock the pantry shelves through a virtual food drive.
- Help Charlotte “can” the Davidson Wildcats
- Attend the official Charlotte Men’s Basketball Watch Party vs. Davidson College at Cabarrus Brewing Company Tuesday, Nov. 29.
