School of Data Science Formally Joins College of Computing and Informatics and more

UNC Charlotte’s School of Data Science will soon expand its academic offerings with the establishment of a Doctor of Philosophy in Data Science. Approved by the UNC System Board of Governors in May 2024, the degree program will enroll its first cohort of students in fall 2025, pending approval of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. The doctoral program will be enhanced by the School of Data Science formally joining the University’s College of Computing and Informatics.

Faculty / staff announcements

  • All Blue Line and Gold Line service will be suspended Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, as the Charlotte Area Transit System conducts preventive maintenance. Bus bridges will be in place during this period, and normal service will resume at 5 a.m., Monday, June 10.
  • Applications for UNC Charlotte Urban Institute’s sixth Gambrell Faculty Fellows cohort are due by 5 p.m., Monday, June 10.
  • Reminder: Register for the “Establishing a Growth Mindset,” a virtual webinar scheduled for noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 12.
  • Human resources is hosting an HR Power Hour webinar at noon, Wednesday, June 19, to review the procedures associated with hiring SHRA staff members. A second webinar at noon, Wednesday, July 19, will review the procedures associated with hiring EHRA non-faculty staff members.
  • Join the Headspace Care team for monthly, live meditations and quarterly workshops designed to support your mental health. Register online or review past events.
  • UNC Charlotte cautions against using third-party AI bots such as Otter.ai or Read.ai to attend virtual meetings or webinars due to privacy and data security issues.
  • Celebrating tradition, unity and fun, the UNC Charlotte Alumni Association and Black Alumni Chapter invite you to the second annual Juneteenth Block Party from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, June 22. This event is free and open to all faculty, staff, alumni and their families. Register today.
  • The UNC System is conducting research on emergency notification systems. Feedback is requested using this short survey.
