University Recreation has some great events planned for the first week of classes, including RecFest, capture the flag, a group fitness sampler, UREC After Dark and aqua cinema. Join in the fun!

Student Announcements

  • Annual parking permits for 2024-25 are on sale. If you wish to park on campus, you must purchase an annual parking permit through MyPark. Permits are valid from the date of purchase.
  • Participate in the Red Zone workshop, scheduled for 5 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28, in Popp Martin Student Union, Room 265, to learn how interpersonal violence and substance use intersect and discover effective bystander intervention strategies to help create a safer campus community! The first 25 students to sign up are guaranteed a giveaway, and snacks will be provided for all.
  • Clare Short, head coach of 49ers women’s lacrosse, added nine more freshmen to the inaugural women’s lacrosse roster.

Upcoming events

  • Compete for the title of “Chalk the Spot Champion” from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, in the Popp Martin Student Deck, Level Six. Work alone or with a group of up to five students. Registration is required on Niner Engage.
  • Participate in the Lime Ride Prize Patrol, scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, in Lot 16. Take a ride on an e-bike or e-scooter and see campus from a new perspective; stop along the way at designated spots for prizes and beverages. Registration is required on Niner Engage.
  • The Plaza Party and On-Campus Job Fair combo event is back! Enjoy informal networking t from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21, outside in Belk Plaza with games, food and dancing. Then head to the job fair to connect with campus departments looking to fill their internships and federal-work study and part-time positions.

Carolina Rapture Center red-tail hawk launch

The College of Science recently hosted the Carolina Raptor Center as it released its 10,000th rehabilitated raptor. The red-tailed hawk spent 58 days in CRC’s hospital before being freed near the Hauser Alumni Pavilion.
