Niner Nation Steps Up to Help in Hurricane Relief Efforts
Thank you, Niner Nation, for stepping up to help UNC Asheville, Appalachian State University and Western Carolina University as they continue to grapple with significant challenges from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. Niners from across the country have come together to help the Bulldogs, Mountaineers and Catamounts recover from the storm’s wrath.
what you need to know: Faculty and Staff
- Reminder: OneIT is conducting extended maintenance over fall break. Learn about the maintenance work that will take place from Friday, Oct. 11, to Tuesday, Oct. 15.
- Workplace Community Giving Campaign: Faculty and staff have the opportunity to contribute to the Workplace Community Giving Campaign, supporting the Arts and Science Council and the State Employees Combined Campaign, through Friday, Oct. 18. You could score one of six $50 Amazon gift cards for your support of an SECC charity.
- Student Success Grants: Faculty and staff are invited to explore innovative initiatives that support increases in retention and graduation rates by applying for a student success grant. Four grants of $15,000 each will be awarded to collaborative teams of faculty and/or staff whose projects are selected. Proposals are due by 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1.
- Campus Beautification Day: Volunteer to help plant trees, collect litter and assist with other projects for Campus Beautification Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, beginning near the Gage Undergraduate Admissions Center and Lot 8.
- urbanCORE Spotlighted in White Paper: UNC Charlotte is one of eight urban-serving universities featured in an academic white paper, produced by the University of Pennsylvania, that highlights universities addressing urban issues.

- Generations: 60 Years – 21 Conversations: Art history professor Jim Frakes curated a special exhibition commemorating 60 years of the UNC Charlotte Art Department featuring work by alumni with degrees from 1971 to 2024! This trip through university history is on display through Friday, Nov. 8, in all three galleries in the Rowe Building. Tonight, the Department of Art & Art History hosts an opening reception featuring Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber, Frakes and 94 artists and artworks.

Clay/UNC Charlotte Station from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, to enjoy a free performance by The KN3 sponsored by Jazz Arts Charlotte as part of the Ride with Music series. - Green Dot Bystander Training: Learn to use your social influence to reduce sexual assault, dating violence and stalking on campus. Attend Green Dot Bystander Training from 3:30 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21. Dinner and swag will be provided.

- Army ROTC Summer Opportunity: The Army ROTC is offering current sophomores an opportunity to enroll for fall 2025. Students who attend one of the 30-day basic camps next summer at Fort Knox, Kentucky, may become eligible to enroll in the final two-year advanced Army ROTC program, which could include a cadet stipend and an Army ROTC scholarship. Regena Brown ’99, director of retention and graduation, first joined Niner Nation as an undergraduate student. After earning a master’s degree in higher education administration, she returned to the University and has worked in multiple student affairs and academic affairs offices as she pursues a doctorate in educational leadership.
