Jen Amano named associate university ombuds
Jen Amano has been named associate university ombuds, serving as a confidential, impartial resource to help undergraduate students work through challenging problems, conflicts and dilemmas in informal ways. She will listen to students’ concerns, help them explore various options for addressing their issues and empower them to develop the skills and confidence to voice their concerns effectively. When appropriate, Amano will facilitate informal resolution between students or student organizations and connect students with other relevant campus resources.
Amano brings nearly a decade of experience in higher education to the role with a strong background in student services. She most recently served as associate director of community standards and student conduct at Mercy University, where she led student conduct, the behavioral intervention team and chaired the student emergency fund committee that supported students in crisis and connected them with vital resources. Amano also served as residence education coordinator at UNC Charlotte from 2015 to 2019, where she was recognized as Staff Member of the Year in 2018.
She earned a master’s degree in education in college student affairs administration from the University of West Florida and a bachelor’s degree in management from George Mason University.
