Voting Tips and Resources Ahead of Nov. 5
Early voting runs through Saturday, Nov. 2. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 5. The information in this special issue of Niner Insider is intended to help prepare you to vote in the general election.
Get out and Vote
Early Voting: UNC Charlotte’s Cone University Center, Room 112, is an early voting site for Mecklenburg County residents. Vote early from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., today, through Friday, or 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2. See all early voting sites in North Carolina.
Voting on Election Day: The 2024 general election is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Polling places will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. On election day, you must vote at your designated polling location. Registered North Carolina voters can find their polling location and sample ballot here.
Get to the Polls with CATS and Lime: The Charlotte Area Transit System is announcing fare-free transportation on CATS services on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, to provide easier access to polling locations. In addition, Lime is providing free, round-trip rides on e-scooters and e-bikes to voters through Election Day.
North Carolina Election Checklist
- Approved Photo ID: You must show a photo ID to vote. Physical UNC Charlotte 49er ID cards are an approved photo ID; 49er mobile IDs are not.
- Registration Status: Ensure you’re registered to vote with the North Carolina Voter Lookup Tool.
- Not Registered? Voters can do “same-day registration” by Saturday, Nov. 2, during the in-person early voting period.
- Know Before You Go: View your sample ballot before you head to the polls and review Atkins Library’s 2024 Election Guide.
- Still have questions? The 49er Democracy Experience team will be available to provide information during Democracy Day, Thursday Oct. 31, in Cone University Center, Room 240B.
- Make Arrangements: On Election Day, most employees will be able to vote outside of their normal working hours through early voting or extended hours as offered by polling stations.
- Employees may request the use of compensatory time, bonus or vacation (if available) leave to vote. Supervisors and managers are encouraged to allow employees flexibility in reaching the polls.
- Employees are not permitted to use work time for voting.
- VOTE! Head to your polling location during the in-person early voting period or on election day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, and cast your ballot!

She shares insight into the election process, dispels misconceptions and emphasizes the need for more education.
49er Democracy Experience
The 49er Democracy Experience involves students in local, state and national elections through voter registration, voter education and voter mobilization. It is made up of a committee of stakeholders from across campus that develops the University’s strategic approach to campuswide student voting initiatives. Election 2024: What Just Happened?: Gain a deeper understanding of the electoral landscape in this post-election conversation led by Eric Heberlig, professor of political science and public administration, at noon, Wednesday, Nov. 6, via Zoom. Heberlig will unpack election results, their implications and delve into key trends that shaped the election.
Post-Election Health and Wellbeing Resources: Election season can prompt different reactions from everyone, regardless of political affiliation. Student support services are available through the health and wellbeing unit, and employee resources like Headspace Care and the Employee Assistance Program can be found on the HR website.
