Stroll Competition team leaders look forward to NPHC’s annual Niner Nation Week event

Eight National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternities and sororities are set to compete in the annual Homecoming NPHC Stroll Competition, a signature event for Niner Nation Week, in front of a sellout crowd in Popp Martin Student Union, Room 340. Four senior leaders discussed the team vibes ahead of the competition and what it means to them.

What is your favorite part of the stroll competition?
My favorite part about the stroll competition is that it offers several benefits to the NPHC groups and the campus community. Strolling is a unique cultural tradition within Black Greek life, blending rhythm, creativity and synchronized movement that expresses unity and pride. Through a competition, NPHC members have an opportunity to celebrate this tradition, showcasing the heritage and values that are central to their organizations.

This event not only highlights each group’s identity but emphasizes the collective history and shared experiences of Black Greek organizations. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to spend time with current chapter brothers and reconnect with alumni brothers.

What are the team vibes ahead of the competition?
Going into the stroll competition, our team’s vibe is focus, determination and unification. We’re putting in the hard work and dedication needed to perfect every move and ensure our routine is strong from start to finish. Each practice, we’re pushing ourselves to go the extra mile, making sure that every step, beat and formation is sharp and in sync.

Alongside the physical preparation, we’re supporting one another mentally, reminding each other to stay grounded and level-headed as the competition approaches. We understand the importance of showing up as a team, so we’re keeping the atmosphere positive and encouraging, making sure no one feels overwhelmed or pressured. Our goal is to stay connected and focused, bringing out the best in each other while keeping our energy steady and confident.

This balanced mindset is fueling our drive to give our all on the stage, knowing that the hard work and team spirit we’re putting in now will pay off when it’s time to perform.

What does participating in the stroll competition mean to you?
Strolling is a powerful form of expression for me; it’s a way to release stress, stay grounded and keep myself mentally complete. When I’m out there moving, I feel a sense of freedom and authenticity that lets me cut loose and truly be myself.

Strolling isn’t just a routine or performance — it’s a moment where I can fully immerse myself in the energy of the music and the movement, leaving everything else behind. It’s my way of having fun and reconnecting with what makes me feel alive, confident and at peace.

What impact does the stroll competition have on the campus community?
The stroll competition has a significant impact on UNC Charlotte’s campus community. Beyond the entertainment, the event strengthens community bonds by providing a space for diverse groups to connect and share in a memorable experience. It enhances campus spirit and creates a welcoming, inclusive environment where students can take pride in their University’s commitment to diversity and cultural expression.

Overall, the stroll competition contributes to a vibrant campus life, enriching the UNC Charlotte community with tradition, excitement and a deepened understanding of NPHC’s role in student life.

What is your favorite part of the stroll competition?
My favorite part of the stroll competition is the sense of sisterhood that grows as we prepare. It’s all about having fun, enjoying each other’s company and really getting to express ourselves. We get to showcase our chapter’s creativity in a way that reflects our hard work and collaboration.

The energy and excitement of performing together always brings us closer, and it’s so rewarding to see everything come together after all the effort. It’s an experience that deepens our connection as sisters and allows us to share a piece of who we are as a chapter.

What are the team vibes ahead of the competition?
The energy on the team is vibrant and full of positive momentum. We’re putting in the hard work and dedicating ourselves to the process, but we’re also making sure to enjoy every moment.

The balance between focus and fun has allowed us to explore our creativity, motivate one another and stay grounded in the values that make Sigma Gamma Rho so meaningful to us.

It’s inspiring to watch everyone come together, push ourselves beyond limits, and uplift each other, all while proudly representing our organization with passion and purpose.

Participating in the stroll competition is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of our legacy and a reflection of the dedication that defines our organization. It’s an opportunity to embody everything Sigma Gamma Rho stands for.

The stroll competition is a meaningful event for the campus community as it showcases the cultural richness, creativity and dedication of NPHC organizations and their contributions to campus life. It highlights the legacy of excellence that NPHC represents and serves as a reminder of the values and traditions that define us.

What is your favorite part of the stroll competition?
My favorite part of the competition is being able to fellowship and have a great time performing with my brothers!

What are the team vibes ahead of the competition?
The vibes among my brothers and me are “EnthuZed” and confident in the performance we have planned.

What does participating in the stroll competition mean to you?
It’s especially significant because Nov. 15 is “Coop Day” in the Epsilon Zeta Chapter, honoring Super Duper Anthony Cooper, the Godfather of EnthuZiasm, who passed away on this day. Performing on this day is our way to pay homage to him.

What impact does the stroll competition have on the campus community?
The competition brings the campus community together during Homecoming weekend, making a positive impact by uniting everyone in the spirit of the event.

What is your favorite part of the stroll competition?
My favorite part of the stroll competition is the freedom of creativity and individuality that each chapter gets to showcase every year. There’s always new elements to the yard each year, and I love that these changes can be incorporated from throughout the year into this annual event.

What are the team vibes ahead of the competition?
My chapter and I feel very positive. We have formed a closer bond with each other and have developed a mutual trust with one another during this time as well.

What does participating in the stroll competition mean to you?
Participating in an event like this means the world to my chapter and me. We love participating in performances like these because it shows a unique part of our history and allows us to collaborate more as Sorority sisters.

What impact does the stroll competition have on the campus community?
Stroll competition helps bring light and collaboration to the homecoming week at UNC Charlotte. This competition not only brings together the members of the national Panhellenic council, but the members of other Greek councils like DGC, IFC, PHA and IGC.
