International Education Week: A Senior’s Trip to Scotland

Studying abroad can be a life-changing experience for the approximately 800 Niners who participate each year. In celebration of  International Education Week, Rachel O’Connor, a senior history major, shares how her first  study abroad experience in Scotland  transformed her thinking and her career path. 

wHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: FACULTY AND STAFF

  • Atkins Library Dean Finalist: The public presentation for the second finalist for the dean of J. Murrey Atkins Library is 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25, in the J. Murrey Atkins Library, Halton Reading Room. Visit the search webpage to view the candidate’s CV; and provide feedback by 5 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5.
  • Reminder 49er Mart Users: Attend the 49er Mart virtual forum from 2 to 4 p.m, today, Thursday, Nov. 21. Registration is encouraged on the Learning and Development Portal, and more information can be found on the 49er Mart message board.
  • Update Campus Work Addresses: To ensure timely and accurate delivery of campus mail and packages, faculty and staff are asked to review and update their campus work addresses in Banner Self-Service. 
  • Accessibility Award: Nominate a faculty or staff member for the Dubois Award for Accessibility Improvement, which recognizes faculty and staff outside the field of disability services who demonstrate exemplary support of people with disabilities within the campus community. Nominations are due Friday, Dec. 6.
  • 2025 Insurance Cards: Regardless of the action taken during Open Enrollment, all employees will receive a new Aetna ID card that will have a new plan ID number. Members must use this card beginning Jan. 1, 2025, for all medical and pharmacy services. The 2024 ID card will not work in 2025.

  • Legacy Draping Ceremony: The deadline for graduating legacy students and their families to register for the fall 2024 Legacy Draping ceremony is Friday, Dec. 6. This event is scheduled for 7:45 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12, in Popp Martin Student Union, Room 340.
