Layne Riggs Speeds Toward the Finish Line
Layne Riggs just concluded his first career season with back-to-back wins and NASCAR’s Truck Series Rookie of the Year Award, capturing the attention of the U.S. racing community. What sets Riggs apart, however, is his parallel success in the classroom as he prepares to graduate from the William States Lee College of Engineering.

- 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13: College of Health and Human Services, the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences and the Klein College of Science.
- 3 p.m., Friday Dec. 13: College of Arts + Architecture, the Belk College of Business, the College of Computing and Informatics, the Cato College of Education and the William States Lee College of Engineering.
- 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14: Doctoral hooding ceremony and conferral of degrees.
- 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14: Graduate School ceremony for master’s degrees and graduate certificates.

Bell Ringers Display Wide Range of Charlotte Pride
Syreeta Taylor, Simone Tezzo and Saafa Shahriar were chosen as the bell ringers for fall 2024 commencement, a long-standing tradition in which distinguished students ring the UNC Charlotte bell. Read more about these remarkable Niners.
Distinguished Faculty Marshals
University marshals are faculty members selected to represent their colleagues at ceremonial functions of the University. Get to know the marshals for the fall 2024 commencement: Mark West, professor of English; Margaret Quinlan, professor of communication studies; Erik Byker, professor of reading and elementary education; and Lisa Russell-Pinson, associate teaching professor of writing.
Commencement Reminders
- Review the parking and transportation changes and reminders.
- Graduating students are required to have a UNC Charlotte student ID card or mobile ID to enter the graduate area. If you do not have a valid UNC Charlotte ID card, follow the instructions on how to download a mobile ID.
- A clear bag policy will be enforced at Halton Arena.
- The following items will not be permitted in Halton Arena: banners, flags and/or signs of any shape and size; noisemakers, balloons, umbrellas and sashes/stoles worn by graduating students that exceed six inches in width.
