Summer is in full swing, which means it’s time to fire up the grill and call family and friends to the backyard! John Hutchison, campus executive chef, and Calvin Seabury, executive chef at SoVi, share their cookout essentials and tips to elevate your grill game.

- Academic Affairs Weekly News Digest: The moratorium for new course and curriculum proposals has ended. Learn to start new proposals in Curriculum by Modern Campus, along with other important updates in this week’s news digest.
- Adjusted Hours at Atkins Library: New carpet installation on the first floor of Atkins Library is scheduled from Monday, July 28, through Tuesday, Aug. 12, and will affect building hours. Learn more about adjusted hours and alternative study locations.
- Become a Sustainability Ambassador: UNC Charlotte’s Sustainability Ambassador Program is a professional development program for employees to learn more about the University’s sustainability goals and practices. Become an ambassador and make a positive difference within your department and beyond.
- Community Service Leave: UNC Charlotte offers eligible employees paid community service leave each year. It is important for employees and supervisors to review eligible usage of leave and ensure required information is included in Kronos comments, as noted on the HR website.
- Host Families Needed: UNC Charlotte is seeking families to host students from Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan, as part of the #Music! Connection through Notes cultural exchange program. Interested families would host one or two students from Friday, Sept. 19, through Sunday, Sept. 21.
- Building Access Changes: Effective Monday, Aug. 11, the University will modify the building access schedules and procedures, which will allow more manageable business hours campuswide.
- Last Call: Encourage your grad students to be ambassadors! This is a fantastic opportunity for them to represent UNC Charlotte graduate education and share their experiences. The final application deadline is today, Monday, July 28, at 11:59 p.m.

- Back in Prospector: Mail and Package Services has resumed normal operations in lower Prospector.
- Division of Research College Shared Services: The Division of Research has updated the roles and responsibilities matrix to increase transparency and consistency across colleges, and starting Friday, Aug. 15, will begin working with colleges to implement.
- Executive Leadership Institute: Chris Gonyar and Natasha Randle are among the 36 UNC System employees selected for the sixth cohort of the Executive Leadership Institute, a 10-month program to build the next generation of leadership within the UNC System.
- Azure Dev Tools for Teaching: Faculty and students who use Azure Dev Tools will no longer have access to the program, effective Thursday, Aug. 7.
- Time Management Workshop: Register for “Mastering Time Management: Proven Techniques for Overcoming Procrastination and Prioritizing Tasks ,” which is part of human resources’ Unleash Your Niner Potential series for Charlotte employees. This workshop will be from 3 to 4 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, in Colvard Building, Room 5092.
- Call for Nominations: The 49er Alumni Campus Employees Awards honor both the achievements of 49er ACEs and the loyalty that members have for the University. Nominate a deserving member by Sunday, Aug. 31.
- Pre-65 Webinar Series: Register for one of the free “Understanding Your Medical Plan Options When You Become Medicare-Eligible” webinars scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5, or Thursday, Aug 21.

Tom Burch is an associate professor of scenic design who also plays with puppets; he developed his newest creations at Goodyear Arts, a local nonprofit arts space at Camp North End where he was one of three summer 2025 artists-in-residence.
