Did ‘The Pitt’ Get it Right? A Social Work Lecturer Weighs In

HBO’s “The Pitt” has been hailed as one of the most realistic portrayals of emergency medicine on TV. Lynn Puma, a lecturer in the School of Social Work within UNC Charlotte’s College of Health and Human Services, watched the show and weighed in on how the series depicted a hospital social worker.

  • Summer Commencement Parking: Please review the following changes to parking and transportation operations that will occur Friday, Aug. 8, and Saturday, Aug. 9, for Summer Commencement.
  • Telework Agreements: To enhance efficiency and support the launch of a new telework system, human resources is postponing the renewal of current telework agreements until October 2025. All active telework agreements ending Sunday, Aug. 31, will be extended through Friday, Oct. 31.
  • Building Access Changes: Effective Monday, Aug. 11, the University will modify the building access schedules and procedures, which will allow more manageable business hours campuswide.
  • Upper Prospector Sneak Peak: Dining Services invites faculty and staff to a first look at the completed Upper Prospector renovation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13. This sneak peek, an exclusive to campus employees, precedes the grand opening Wednesday, Aug. 20.
  • NSF Engines Semifinalists: The University’s Carolinas Engine for Grid Modernization is one of 29 semifinalists in the U.S. National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines competition.
  • Register to Attend Convocation: This year’s University Convocation will take place at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, in the Popp Martin Student Union, Multipurpose Room; please register to attend. The fall faculty meeting will take place immediately following convocation at 10:45 a.m.
