A Rare Dive Into the Arctic’s Secrets
In a first-of-its-kind project, Roger Tipton, UNC Charlotte research associate professor of mechanical engineering and engineering science, is leading a team of researchers from multiple universities that will investigate contaminants in the Arctic’s pristine waters.
- What’s it about? The research will provide a critical baseline on water pollutants such as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS (aka “forever chemicals”).

- Gambrell Faculty Fellowship: The Charlotte Urban Institute is accepting applications for the 2025-26 Gambrell Faculty Fellowship program. With generous support from The Gambrell Foundation, the institute will provide grants up to $21,000 each for six projects related to quality of life in the Charlotte region.
- New Canvas Feature: Canvas has introduced Discussion Checkpoints, a feature that automates grading for discussions requiring peer replies, streamlining the evaluation process for instructors.

- Deadline Tomorrow: The Niner Course Pack is an all-in-one textbook rental program. All required textbooks are automatically billed to your student account at $20 per credit hour. If you want to opt-out of the Niner Course Pack, you must do so before tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 29.
