Jenny Matz, executive director of strategic brand and digital engagement, is one of the Mecklenburg Times’ 50 Most Influential Women. She was recognized for her transformative leadership in higher education branding and civic engagement.

During a 12-year tenure at UNC Charlotte, Matz spearheaded the 2021 institutional rebrand, aligning its identity as a top research university and directed the launch of “For the Love of Charlotte,” the largest fundraising campaign in the University’s history. Her strategic partnerships with NASCAR, Charlotte SHOUT!, Charlotte FC and Lovin’ Life Music Fest have elevated the University’s cultural presence and supported record enrollment growth.

“Jenny’s recognition as one of Mecklenburg Times’ 50 Most Influential Women is a testament to her visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to elevating UNC Charlotte’s brand and impact,” said Jen Ames Stuart, chief marketing and communications officer for the University. “Her work has not only transformed how we tell our story — it’s deepened our connection to the community and positioned the University as a cultural and academic force in the region.”

Matz served on the Leadership Charlotte board, contributing to nonprofit and community development initiatives. A Queens University alumna, she has served on its Alumni Board.

Mecklenburg Times hosted an awards ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 28, at The Union at Station West in Charlotte, where women leaders across the Carolinas were highlighted for their business acumen, mentorship and community involvement.
