  • Distinguished Research Award: The Division of Research is accepting nominations for the 2026 Charlotte’s Distinguished Research Award (formerly First Citizens Bank Scholars Medal), honoring senior, full-time faculty whose long-term scholarship and creative work have made significant contributions to the University. Nominations are due Friday, Feb. 13.

Start the new year with a chilly tradition. The annual Polar Plunge is at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22, in the UREC Outdoor Pool.

  • CAB’s Winter Ball: Bring back your prom era and wear your best formal fit to CAB’s Winter Ball from 7 to 10 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23, in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons.

  • Thursday Trivia Results: The first installment of Niner Insider Trivia tested your ‘gold’ knowledge. Forty-two percent got all four questions correct. Question three was the biggest challenge; only 60% chose the correct James Bond movie “GoldenEye.”
  • Nominate a Student: UNC Charlotte presents several awards to students during the annual University Honors and Awards Ceremony. These awards recognize students who have made significant contributions during their undergraduate or graduate careers. Submit a nomination by Friday, Jan. 23.
