UNC Charlotte remembers alumna and philanthropist Christine F. Price ’82
UNC Charlotte remembers alumna and philanthropist Christine F. Price ’82, whose commitment to the University and its students left a lasting impact on campus and beyond. She and her husband, Joe ’83, have helped strengthen student support, academic and athletics programs that continue to shape the Charlotte experience. Price died on Jan. 31, 2026.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Price remained deeply engaged with UNC Charlotte throughout her life. The Prices played an integral role in advancing initiatives across the University, including the Belk College of Business, Habitat for Humanity and the Chancellor’s Fund. She was also a proud supporter of 49ers basketball, soccer and football and helped secure gifts for the annual Great Gold Rush Auction benefiting athletic scholarships.
In recognition of her enduring service and the Price family’s philanthropic support, the University named the Christine F. Price Center for Counseling and Psychological Services in her honor in 2017. The center supports the holistic well-being and academic success of students by providing counseling, crisis management, consultation and preventive education, while also serving as a training site for graduate students.
Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber said Price’s legacy is reflected in the care and compassion she showed for students and the University community.
“Christine Price understood that student success is about more than academics; it is about feeling supported, seen and valued,” Gaber said. “Through her generosity and unwavering commitment to UNC Charlotte, she helped ensure that students have access to the care and resources they need to thrive. We extend our deepest condolences to Joe and the entire Price family, and we honor Christine’s life and the lasting difference she made for our University.”
Widely recognized for their generosity throughout the Charlotte region, the Prices have supported a range of national and local organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, the recent redevelopment of Discovery Place’s Nature Museum, the Charlotte Symphony, Freedom Communities and local, at-risk elementary schools. Sharon Presbyterian Church, to which Price was deeply dedicated, named the Christine Price Outreach Center in her honor.
