University mourns death of Financial Services’ Larry Barfield

Larry Barfield, stockroom manager for receiving and stores, died Friday, March 6. A dedicated member of the financial services team, Barfield served UNC Charlotte for more than 30 years.

Throughout his tenure, Barfield was known for his reliability, strong work ethic and deep commitment to supporting the campus community. A proud Niner, he was an enthusiastic supporter of 49er athletics. Before joining UNC Charlotte, Barfield honorably served in the United States Army.

“Larry’s warmth, dedication and presence will be greatly missed,” said Xavier Richardson, warehouse operations manager. “He built lasting relationships across the University and took great pride in representing his department.”

The family will receive friends from 11 to 11:45 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord (460 Branchview Dr. NE, Concord, NC 28025). The funeral service will follow at noon and will be webcast. Barfield will be laid to rest with military honors at West Concord Cemetery (331 Union Cemetery Rd SW, Concord, NC 28025).
