Faculty GOLD Awards honor everyday impact
The inaugural UNC Charlotte Faculty GOLD Awards celebrate the everyday ways faculty support, uplift and inspire one another.
Rooted in appreciation and peer recognition, the awards are open to all faculty across all ranks, including adjunct faculty. They highlight the meaningful contributions that help build a strong, connected academic community.
From checking in on a colleague to stepping up during a busy time or bringing creativity and care to a department, the awards celebrate the moments that often go unrecognized but make a lasting impact.
“At a time when higher education can feel heavy and uncertain, the Faculty GOLD Awards are a reminder of the good we bring to one another,” said Tehia Starker Glass, interim executive director of the Center for ADVANCing Faculty Success and professor in the Department of Reading and Elementary Education. “They recognize the humanity, generosity and positive impact all of our UNC Charlotte faculty have—not just in big achievements, but in the small, meaningful ways faculty show up for each other every day.”

Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber surprised this year’s recipients with plaques and bouquets of flowers. Award categories and honorees include:
- Goes the Extra Mile: Susan Arthur, Department of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences (APHCS)
- Official Morale Booster: Ian Binns, Department of Reading and Elementary Education (REEL)
- Lightens the Vibe: Adriana Medina, REEL
- Difference Maker: Jean Vintinner, REEL
The Faculty GOLD Awards will be presented each spring semester. For more information, visit advance.charlotte.edu.
