Jon Ward ‘94 appointed to UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees

Jon Ward ‘94, chief executive officer of Ward Vessel and Exchanger, has been appointed to the UNC Charlotte Board of Trustees by the UNC System Board of Governors. The appointment was approved Thursday, July 23. He will complete the remainder of the term previously held by Hugh McColl, which expires June 30, 2027.

As CEO of Ward Vessel and Exchanger, Ward leads the Charlotte-based manufacturer of ASME Code pressure vessels and heat exchangers, building on a family business founded in 1982. Under his leadership, the company has grown its reputation for specialty alloy fabrication while fostering a culture centered on mentorship, operational excellence and developing the next generation of manufacturing leaders.

Since earning a bachelor’s degree in engineering from UNC Charlotte, Ward has remained connected to the University through his service on the William States Lee College of Engineering Industry Advisory Board. He also has supported hands-on engineering education through Ward Vessel and Exchanger’s partnership with the college’s Super Fab Lab. Earlier this year, he received an Outstanding Alumni Award from the college and was elected to the UNC Charlotte Foundation Board.

Ward is an active advocate for American manufacturing and serves on several corporate and industry boards. He also hosts Forged in Focus, a podcast exploring the future of manufacturing through conversations with industry leaders, engineers and innovators.
