Summer Commencement is here and this special issue of Niner Insider brings the excitement front and center with grad advice, grad spotlights, a message from a beloved faculty member and a look at the history behind the Old Bell. The class of 2026 is stepping boldly into business administration, health care administration, education, construction management, cybersecurity, media, fine arts and more, with many continuing to graduate school — each path reflecting the ambition, resilience and promise that define what it means to be a Niner.

Summer bell ringer symbolizes opportunity for perseverance and growth at UNC Charlotte
Imani Tisdale, a first‑generation Niner and a standout campus leader celebrated for her resilience, service and unmistakable 49er spirit, will ring UNC Charlotte’s historic Old Bell during the commencement ceremony.
A professor’s message for Niner Nation
When asked about their favorite classes at UNC Charlotte, many graduates had a common response: courses taught by Nicholas Canada, assistant teaching professor of English and American studies. For Canada, teaching means more than delivering course material; it’s about inspiring curiosity, building confidence and creating a classroom where every student feels encouraged to succeed.
Historic Old Bell restored to its original glory
UNC Charlotte’s Old Bell — a campus landmark rung during defining moments in University history — has been fully restored after an extensive refurbishment by Bethel Miscellaneous Steel. The nearly 100‑year‑old bell will ring again at Summer Commencement to honor the class of 2026.
Commencement reminders
- To accommodate expected parking demand for commencement, changes to parking and transit operations will be in effect on Friday, Aug. 7.
- Graduating students are required to have a UNC Charlotte student ID or government-issued ID to enter the graduate area. If you do not have a valid UNC Charlotte ID card, follow the instructions to download a mobile ID.
- A clear bag policy will be enforced at Halton Arena; neither umbrellas, balloons, noisemakers, posters, banners nor flags are allowed in this facility.
