A message to faculty and staff: Call for support for student organizations

Dear Colleagues,

Our campus community thrives on student leadership, but right now, several of our student organizations urgently need faculty and staff advisors for the 2026-27 academic year.

To comply with the student fee regulation adopted May 4, by the UNC System, Charlotte’s student-run organizations are now required to have an advisor who is employed by the constituent institution in order to be recognized by the University, which entitles them to receive student government funding and reserve space.

We’re calling on Niner Nation for help.

As we start the fall semester, over 100 student organizations are unable to register because they lack an advisor. Without our immediate support, many of these academic, wellness, cultural and service groups will no longer exist on campus.

Being an advisor does not require specialized expertise. Depending on the needs of the organization, the time commitment can be as little as one hour a month. You’ll also have access to training and support from Student Involvement to help you feel confident in the role.

You simply do what you already do everyday, which is, make a positive difference in students’ lives. In doing so, you help Niners find support and community through student-run and student-led opportunities that foster peer-to-peer learning, leadership, professional skills and personal growth.
