Celebrate Campus Sustainability Month
October is Campus Sustainability Month, an international celebration of sustainability in higher education. To recognize the month, UNC Charlotte’s Office of Sustainability has compiled a list of campus and community events to celebrate.
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in campus events such as the Transportation Fair, Student Sustainability Summit and Campus Beautification Day. Off-campus events include the Catawba Riversweep, Biketoberfest and the Charlotte Repair Cafe.
The month’s lineup also includes Reuse Rodeos, a series that encourages the community to give gently used items a second life. Participants can bring clothing, books and other items they no longer need and exchange them for new-to-you finds at no cost.
Participants are encouraged to drop off books, in advance, at the following locations in exchange for tickets to redeem on event days.
- Tuesday, Oct. 6 and 13, Popp Martin Student Union Porch, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
- Thursday, Oct. 8, 15, and 23, Prospector, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
- Wednesday, Oct. 7, Recreational Field 14A, noon to 2 p.m.
- Wednesday, Oct. 14, Cauble Quad, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Campus Sustainability Month gives Niners an opportunity to come together, learn more about sustainability and take part in activities that make a positive impact,” said Chad Carwein, university sustainability officer. “With support from partners across campus and the Charlotte community, we’re creating meaningful ways for students, faculty and staff to connect with one another and contribute to a more sustainable campus.”
