University mourns death of Facilities Management’s Jeanine Bachtel
Jeanine Bachtel, director of project management, died Saturday, Sept. 19. A dedicated and highly respected member of UNC Charlotte’s Facilities Management team, Bachtel served the University for 16 years and played a key role in shaping the campus environment that students, faculty and staff experience today.
During her tenure, Bachtel led and supported numerous academic and capital projects, bringing a steady hand, deep expertise and a collaborative spirit to every effort. Colleagues knew her as a problem‑solver, a mentor and someone who approached each project with pride, precision and an unwavering commitment to the university’s mission.
“Jeanine was an exceptional project manager and an even better colleague,” said Kent Reid, senior director of planning, design, and construction and university architect. “Her work strengthened this campus in ways that will serve generations of students, and she approached every challenge with professionalism, care and a deep sense of responsibility. Her absence will be felt across our team, but her impact will remain for years to come.”
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 12, at the White Barn at Lucas Farm in Oakland, Maryland. Family and friends are invited to stay for lunch following the service.
