The power of knowledge and information: Charlotte’s Rodney Freeman is chronicling the history of Black librarians

Digital production librarian Rodney Freeman Jr. spends the workday archiving photos, films, documents and other materials that are within the collections of UNC Charlotte’s Atkins Library. In his free time, he is pursuing a passion project — a documentary focused on Black librarianship.

Heggestad named inaugural associate provost for faculty affairs

Eric D. Heggestad, a professor of psychological science and organizational science at UNC Charlotte, has been named the inaugural associate provost for faculty affairs, effective July 1. In this new role, he will lead institutional strategies aimed at supporting faculty success and ensuring an exemplary academic experience for all faculty members.

University remembers distinguished public servant, educator Gerald ‘Jerry’ Fox

On March 27, the namesake of the UNC Charlotte Master of Public Administration Program, Gerald “Jerry” Fox, died at the age of 91.

Fox was Mecklenburg County manager from 1980 to 2000; after retiring, he joined the MPA program as a part-time faculty member. Later, Fox was a founding member of the UNC Charlotte Practitioner Advisory Board, an organization dedicated to supporting the MPA program and its students.

Matthew Gin publishes work on ephemeral architecture built in France

“Staging Sovereignty: Ephemeral Architecture and the Entry of Maria Teresa Rafaela into France, 1745,” recently published in the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, examines the architectural dimensions of the remise, a courtly ceremony that marked the moment when a royal bride departed her homeland to be given into her new husband’s possession.

Charlotte junior Jalen London selected for Amgen Scholars program

UNC Charlotte junior Jalen London has been selected for the competitive Amgen Scholars program and will conduct research this summer at Harvard University. 

For Winston-Salem native London — a Martin Scholar, nursing major and member of the Honors College and nursing honors program — the Amgen program will allow him to continue research he began at Harvard last summer.
