Campus presentations by director of University space management and utilization finalists

Chancellor Philip L. Dubois noted during this year’s Convocation that the University is recruiting a Director of University Space Management and Utilization, a new EPA position. The director will report to Phil Jones, associate vice chancellor for facilities, with a dotted-line report to the senior associate provost of academic affairs.

Hartley’s ‘Hamlet’ wins Audiobook of the Year

“Hamlet, Prince of Denmark,” a novelization of Shakespeare’s tragedy by Robinson Distinguished Professor of Shakespeare Andrew Hartley and co-author David Hewson, has been named the 2014 Audiobook of the Year.

Two art professors receive ASC grants

Heather Freeman, associate professor of digital media, and Marek Ranis, assistant professor of sculpture, will receive 2015 Regional Artist Project grants from the Arts & Science Council (ASC).

Johnson Foundation poll recognizes work by UNC Charlotte researchers

“Por Nuestros Ojos: Understanding Social Determinants of Health through the Eyes of Youth,” co-authored by a number of UNC Charlotte researchers, was named among the four most influential research pieces related to health care disparities for 2014, according to the Culture of Health Reader Poll by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, considered the largest philanthropic efforts devoted to public health.

Mobile mammography unit coming to campus

The Charlotte Radiology Breast Center’s mobile mammography unit will be on campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17, in the loading dock area behind the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

Members of the campus community can schedule an appointment with the unit by calling 704-367-2232, ext. 6241. The Advisory Committee to the Chancellor for Employee Health and Wellness is coordinating this event.

University to award 3,300 degrees at Dec. 13 commencement, 81-year-old among the graduates

Commencement ceremonies celebrate the completion of one’s educational journey – no matter how long it may take. This is especially true for one UNC Charlotte graduate at fall commencement Saturday, Dec. 13.

Barbara Coberly, 81, will be among the roughly 3,320 students who will gather with family, friends and others in Halton Arena to receive their undergraduate, master’s or doctoral degrees.

NEA grant to support Projective Eye Gallery’s ‘KEEPING WATCH on WATER’

The UNC Charlotte College of Arts + Architecture will receive a $10,000 National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) Challenge America grant to support programming by the Projective Eye Gallery for the “KEEPING WATCH on WATER: City of Creeks” project. The NEA received 347 eligible Challenge America applications and will award 163 grants for a total of $1.63 million.
