Atom Power, the standout energy company co-created by UNC Charlotte alumnus Ryan Kennedy ’04, was recently recognized as part of Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas Awards.

When the coronavirus pandemic hit in the middle of the spring semester, it added a new layer of significance to the assignments in Assistant Professor of Architectural History Lidia Klein’s spring seminar. The curriculum for the graduate course, “Architecture and Production: From Assembly Line to 3-D Printing,” challenged students to investigate “changes in methods of architectural production from the 19th century to the present,” placing those changes “within social, political, cultural and economic contexts.”

Janni Sorensen, who established the Charlotte Action Research Project at UNC Charlotte, and UNC Charlotte doctoral alumna Melissa Anne Currie ’15 were recognized for outstanding scholarship and service in the field of urban affairs as recipients of the 2020 Best Article in the Journal of Urban Affairs Award.

An interdisciplinary team from UNC Charlotte has received a $29,000 Research Grant in the Arts from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for the project, “Arts-based social mobility: Exploring cultural capital in Charlotte, N.C.”
