Flu shot clinic scheduled

Event Date:
November 13, 2012 - 8:00 AM
Location:
Cone University Center, Lucas Room

UNC Charlotte, in partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) and Maxim Health Systems, will hold an on-campus flu shot clinic. Because vaccination is considered the best protection from the flu, employees and family members, age 4 and older, who are covered by BCBSNC, can participate in these free clinics.

Immunizations will be administered conveniently on campus from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, in the Cone University Center, Lucas Room.

Children between the ages of 4 and 17 must have parents with them. Children under age 4 must receive shots from their primary care physician.

Employees and their family members who are not covered by the State Health Plan or BCBSNC can obtain a flu shot from Maxim Healthcare for $30.

Pregnant women at any stage may receive the flu shot without a prescription.

Participants will be required to bring their current BCBSNC ID card and a photo ID to the clinic. They also will have to sign a consent form prior to receiving a flu shot. New employees who do not have their health cards should bring their subscriber ID number, which can be obtained from BCBS at 888-234-2416.

Faculty and staff members may also receive a flu shot from their doctor's office, participating health department or in-network immunizing pharmacist. North Carolina State Health Plan (SHP) members, including retirees, can receive a flu shot at no charge, while vaccine supplies last.

SHP members may either schedule an appointment for a flu shot or visit a physician's flu shot clinic. Employees who go to their doctor's office and get the flu vaccine from a nurse, there won't be a charge for the flu vaccine. However, if a physician administers the flu shot or if an individual receives other services in addition to the flu shot, he/she will be responsible for any applicable copayment, coinsurance or deductible amounts.

Also, SHP members may go to a participating pharmacist or CVS MinuteClinic to receive a flu shot free of charge. Only SHP members ages 18 and older may receive flu vaccinations from pharmacists. Individuals will be required to show their health care card to the pharmacist.

There is no separate vaccine required for H1N1; it is now included as part of the standard flu vaccine.
