The first Wednesday in April is National Walking Day, and the American Heart Association sponsors this day to remind people about the health benefits of taking a walk.
Research shows that each hour of regular exercise can add roughly two hours to a person’s life expectancy. The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week for adults.
Thirty-one qualified nominations were submitted to the Human Resources Department for the 2023 Staff Employee of the Year. Employees can be recognized in the categories of Devotion to Duty, Innovation, Human Relations, Safety and Heroism, and Community and Public Service.
As executive assistant to the provost, no two days are the same for Shannon Homesley ’15, who is serving as an faculty/staff ambassador for this year’s #NinerNationGives campaign. Earlier this month, the UNC Charlotte Staff Council held its annual Chili, Soup and Cornbread Cook-off.

Charleata Neal is the facilities management director of human resources and has been a Niner for almost six years. Neal, a Woodbridge, Virginia, native was involved in women’s basketball during college, and through sports, she discovered valuable lessons.
